Notre-Dame des Autels The last relics of the priory church of Saint Michel de Connex can be seen after an hour walk from Champ-sur-Drac-village, on the side of the Connex. This priory church is called the Red Monks convent because of the red hood the monks used to wear. This 11th century priory church had an important role at the time because it was these monks who used to nominate the parish priests of Champ, Notre-Dame-de-Mésage, Varces, Saint-Paul-de-Varces and Risset. It suffered from the wars of religion and the numerous excavations done in order to find a hypothetical treasure which was supposed to be hidden in the huge underground crypt. In 1570, it was abandoned by the monks and the last arch fell during a storm in 1984. It can now be the purpose of a walk until the Roche Courbière which is a panoramic viewpoint from where one can see the whole valley of the Romanche. |
